The Intensive Care Unit was like a Second Home.
Lakshman associated it with expert medical knowledge, incredible technology, and deep relationships with patients, families, and colleagues. It was serious, but he always felt like he was making a difference, and there were many moments of joy.
All of that changed in March of 2020 when the pandemic hit Boston and turned the ICU into a dark, quiet, and lonely place. Working through the surge, he missed what the ICU used to be. He found refuge in designing a card game that reminded him of everything he loved about the ICU.
He hopes Critical Care: The Game will give you all of the joy he finds in the intensive care unit and hospital medicine!

Heal the Sick.
Choose from eight unique patients with dedicated art and backgrounds to bring Critical Care to life. They’ll get sicker every turn with injury to brain, heart, lungs, blood, and their very chemistry through inflammation. Worst of all, the longer a patient is in the ICU, the more trauma they endure. Beware: build up too much injury and you’ll find yourself in a CODE BLUE!

Each turn, you’ll have the chance to leverage the ICU’s best medicine - from high tech invasive devices, diagnostic instruments, and potent medications to the high-touch expertise of your staff!
Every card uses up time on your turn - you’ll get 12 hours a shift, use them wisely!
Each Turn is Unique.
Your pager buzzes and throws a wrench in the works. Maybe the CAT scan machine is down, or perhaps you’re short-staffed in the ICU — nothing is ever simple in the unit! But don’t worry, sometimes the therapy dog shows up and makes everything better.
Watch Out!
Every day in the ICU brings with it the chance for new complications like infections, delirium, shock, and kidney injury. You’ll need to work fast and work smart, but most importantly, work together!
